Countdown to Summer at Makino!
Summer is nearly here, and we are counting down to the opening of Makino Aquatic Centre’s outdoor pool on 12 October 2026.
To celebrate, we are inviting you to join our Countdown to Summer Photo Challenge.
Looking for some school holiday fun?
Bring the family to Makino, enjoy a swim and stop by our themed photo board. Strike a pose, snap a fun photo and enter the draw to win a Makino Summer Starter Pack.

Strike a pose, share your Makino moment and help us count down to summer.
Entering is easy:
- Visit Makino Aquatic Centre.
- Find our Countdown to Summer photo board.
- Strike a pose and take your funniest, most creative or family-friendly photo.
- Send us your photo via:
- Messenger
- Email: Makino@mdc.govt.nz
- Tag Makino Aquatic Centre where applicable.
- That’s it! You’re in the draw.
One lucky winner will take home a Makino Summer Starter Pack, including:
- Makino swim cap
- Goggles
- Family swim passes
- Summer-themed goodies
Competition opens: 25 September 2026
School holidays: 28 September to 9 October 2026
Competition closes: 10 October 2026
Winner announced: 12 October 2026
Outdoor pool opens: 12 October 2026
- Entries are open from 25 September to 10 October 2026.
- Photos must be taken at Makino Aquatic Centre’s Countdown to Summer photo board.
- You’re welcome to submit more than one photo.
- By entering, participants consent to their photos being used by Makino Aquatic Centre and Manawatū District Council for promotional purposes.
- Children featured in photos must have permission from a parent or guardian.
- The winner will be selected and contacted after the competition closes.
- The winner will be announced on 12 October 2026.
- Makino Aquatic Centre reserves the right to amend or withdraw the competition if required.
