Swimming should be for everyone, every day of the month and now, thanks to the introduction of Underswim period swim underwear at the Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC), it can be.
Underswim is reusable period underwear, designed to help people feel confident, comfortable, and supported in the water during menstruation. Whether you are diving in for a swim lesson, fitness session, or school activity, period swimwear provides a discreet, secure option for young swimmers and adults alike.
The MAC team is committed to making the pool an inclusive, welcoming space for all. “We know that managing periods can sometimes be a barrier to participation, especially for our younger community members,” Aimee Flanders, Aquatic Services Manager explains. “With this new option, we hope to help break down that barrier and normalise conversations about menstruation in sport and recreation.”
Period swimwear is now available in a variety of sizes and comes in two styles. If you are not sure how it works or if it’s right for you or a younger member of your family, the MAC team is happy to answer questions and provide information.

Underswim display at the Makino Aquatic Centre has smaller sizes available for younger people with accompanying wet bag for convenience.
