NEW! Weekend Aqua Fitness Classes
Did you know that exercising in water can provide twelve times the resistance of air, making even familiar movements far more effective for building strength and endurance. Sunday Aqua Fitness classes are now offered by the Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC), giving people of all fitness levels another opportunity to enjoy this low-impact, full-body workout. Aqua Fitness is perfect for beginners, those recovering from injury, or regular fitness enthusiasts looking for a joint friendly way to strengthen muscles, improve cardiovascular health, and boost flexibility, all while having fun in the water.
Sundays now feature Aqua Fit at 8:30am and Aqua Mat at 9:30am, both 45-minute classes are held in chest-deep water, with Aqua Mat taking place on top of the mat for most of the class. Aqua Mat combines yoga, Pilates, and bodyweight exercises on a floating mat to challenge balance, coordination, and core stability, while Aqua Fit provides a dynamic cardio and strength workout suitable for all ages and abilities. “Aqua Fitness is a great way to stay active, tone your muscles, and even relieve stress,” says Renee Dunbar, Aquatic Programmes Leader. “We have regulars who attend classes during the week, and now Sundays give more people the chance to experience the benefits of exercising in water.”
For safety and enjoyment, first-time participants are asked to complete a Pre-Screening Questionnaire, available online or at reception. Whether you are a newcomer or a regular, Sunday classes are a fantastic way to try something new, stay motivated, and enjoy the supportive atmosphere. Come along and see why so many make Aqua Fitness part of their routine it’s challenging, fun, and leaves you feeling refreshed.
