Introducing reusable wristbands for swimmers

Swimmers will soon notice something a little different when they arrive for a swim, with new reusable silicone wristbands replacing the disposable bands currently in use.

As part of the change, all swimmers under the age of eight will now wear a coloured wristband while using the pools, including Club Swimmer and those attending Swim School lessons.

The wristbands provide lifeguards with an easy visual way to identify younger swimmers and their supervision requirements. It also means children who stay for a recreational swim before or after their lesson can be easily identified once their lesson has finished.

Unlike the current bands, the new silicone versions won’t head for the bin after every swim. Swimmers will return their wristband before leaving so it can be cleaned and reused, reducing the number of single-use wristbands used each year.

It is a simple improvement that supports both safety and sustainability while providing a consistent approach for lifeguards.

Swimmers will receive the appropriate coloured wristband when they arrive and will be asked to return it to the designated collection box before leaving.

The new reusable wristbands will be introduced from Monday 12 October.
