Dogs in Togs 2025 a Hit at Makino Aquatic Centre
It was paws, dog paddles, and plenty of excitement at the Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC) last weekend as Dogs in Togs returned for another tail-wagging day of fun. The popular annual event drew dog lovers from across the district, with lots of pup's wearing their best swimwear for a splash.
With the public pool season officially over, the outdoor facility was opened exclusively to canines for one day only. Three one-hour sessions were held to accommodate dogs of all sizes, with smaller pups enjoying a gentler paddle in the morning, followed by two lively sessions for larger breeds.
Makino Aquatic Services Manager, Aimee Flanders, said the day exceeded expectations and has become a much-loved event in the community.
“The energy, the excitement, and the sheer joy on the dog’s faces. It’s something you must see to believe. We had so many happy pups and proud owners. It was just awesome to be a part of it,” said Flanders.
The event sold out, with tickets snapped up by dog lovers eager to give their furry companions a chance to cool off and socialise.
“Every year, the response gets bigger,” Flanders added. “It’s a fun, safe way to close out the outdoor pool season and celebrate with our community. We’re already looking forward to next year.”
The MAC team paused chemical treatments in the outdoor pool ahead of the event to ensure a safe swimming environment for the dogs, and staff were on hand to keep things running smoothly throughout the day.
With the outdoor pool now officially closed for the season, the Makino Aquatic Centre is turning its focus back to its year-round indoor programmes but Dogs in Togs 2025 will be remembered as one of the summer’s standout moments.
