Counting down to outdoor pool season

The countdown is on, quite literally, with Makino Aquatic Centre’s (MAC) outdoor pool complex reopening for the season on Monday 12 October.

Staff have been counting down the days, and with good reason. The opening of the outdoor complex means more space to swim, play, relax and make the most of the warmer months.

The outdoor complex has something for just about everyone. There’s a heated 50-metre swimming pool for those wanting to clock up some lengths, a heated dive pool with 1-metre and 3-metre diving boards, and a heated learner’s pool for those finding their confidence in the water.

For the littlest swimmers, there’s a freshwater toddler splash pool, while the children’s playground comes with the added bonus of a slide straight into the learner’s pool.

But a day at the outdoor pools doesn’t have to be all about swimming.

Families can spread out on the grass, find a spot under one of the shade coverings, watch the action from the tiered grandstand or make use of one of the two free electric BBQs.  Pack the togs and a picnic to make a day of it.

For staff, 12 October has been circled on the calendar for a while. The digital countdown has been running online and inside the facility, and it’s now almost time to swap counting days for counting laps.
