Making A Splash This Election!
Paper and water don’t usually go together but this election, they do! The Makino Aquatic Centre is making voting fun and easy with its very own bright orange ballot bin set up right at reception. You can’t miss it; it stands out like a road cone in the middle of the pool complex.
The idea is simple: whether you’re bringing the kids in for swim lessons, clocking up lengths for Blue September, stretching it out at aqua fitness, or battling it out at canoe polo, you can also take a moment to step up and vote. Life can feel like a juggle with work, family, fitness, and everything in between so why not tick one more thing off the list while you are here? Drop your vote in the bin, and just like that, you have had your say in the future of our district.
Your voting pack should have arrived in your letterbox, complete with the Candidate Information Booklet.
Aimee Flanders, Aquatic Services Manager, says the team is proud to be part of making democracy easy and accessible: “Our community comes here regularly to swim, train, and spend time with their whānau. Having a voting bin right here at reception means people can make a splash in the pool and in the ballot box. It’s about making voting simple, fun, and part of everyday life.”
So next time you head to Makino make a splash, have your say, and be part of shaping the future. Voting closes at 12 noon on Saturday 11 October, so get your papers in early and keep an eye out for that bright orange bin. It’s not hard to miss, and so is your chance to vote!
