Get ready for some frightful fun!

From Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November, the Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC) is set to transform into a spooky facility filled with decorations, activities, and treats for the whole whānau.

The Halloween celebrations begin early with the Spooktacular Monster Masterpieces Colouring-In Competition, running from 20 October to 2 November. Open to both children and adults, this popular activity invites participants to bring their creativity to life, adding colour and fun to the MAC reception wall.

From 27 to 31 October, visitors can take part in a range of frightfully fun activities, including Seek the Spooky Bats and Haunted Hatchlings, where swimmers will search high and low around the pool for hidden Halloween surprises. The Creepy Count Jar challenge will also be running, with guests invited to guess the number of lollies in the jar for a chance to win a sweet prize.

On Friday 31 October, the centre will celebrate Halloween Day with a special Trick or Treat event. Guests can stop by to grab a lolly from the friendly MAC team and enjoy the festive atmosphere. After all, at MAC, there are no tricks only treats!

Aquatic Programmes Leader Renee Dunbar says the team is thrilled to be hosting the event for the first time. “It’s something new for us, and we are really excited to see how our community gets involved,” she says. “We love creating fun, family-friendly experiences, and Halloween is the perfect chance to bring a bit of spookiness and laughter to the MAC.”

Come along, join the Halloween festivities, and see what spooky surprises await. It’s sure to be a Spooktacular week at the pool!
