Dive Into Splash-tacular Fun These July School Holidays
This July, the Makino Aquatic Centre is set to make waves with a school holiday programme packed full of fun, creativity, and family-friendly water adventures for tamariki of all ages.
Headlining the holiday excitement is the Dive into Creativity Competition, a creative collaboration with Manawatū Community Hub Libraries. On Monday 30 June, children can attend the Dive into Creativity craft session at the Hub to design their own quirky underwater diver. These creations will then go on display at the Makino in a colourful underwater display throughout the holidays. Awesome prizes are up for grabs in three age groups: Preschool, 5–8 years, and 9+ years. Entries must be dropped off at Makino by Wednesday 2 July, with winners announced on Friday 11 July.
The new splash-tacular Aquarun a giant inflatable obstacle course that’s bigger, bouncier, and more thrilling than ever before will make it’s debute. Running daily from 1–3pm, this action-packed activity promises to be the perfect energy-burner for school holiday afternoons.
For families with little readers, Poolside Pages offers a gentle splash of imagination. Held by the Learn to Swim pool, attendees will float while listening to stories read by the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries team. It’s an experience that’s both educational and entertaining.
The Makino’s programme also includes snorkelling sessions, canoe paddling, lifeguard water safety session, aqua dance, and a float-in movie night. Have you ever watched a movie while swimming? Elemental screens in the afternoon on Friday 11 July perfect for younger swimmers. Thrill-seekers can then take the plunge with Jaws 2. It’s a chilling way to watch a shark movie!
“Our focus this July is creating a space that’s safe, inclusive, and absolutely packed with fun,” says Catherine Todd, Aquatics Activity Leader Makino Aquatic Centre. “From building confidence in the water to sparking creativity through art, there’s something here for every family.”
Most events require bookings, so families are encouraged to book early and check the full schedule online.
