Council renews lifeguard contract

Council endorsed and adopted a two-year extension with CLM for the provision of lifeguard services at the Makino Aquatic Centre in Council’s 5 June meeting.

This renewed partnership comes as the Centre continues to see record attendance, with increases in daily visitors and programme enrolments compared to previous years. A key factor in this growth has been the Centre’s ability to maintain consistent operating hours, supported by a reliable team of professional lifeguards from CLM.

“Safety is our top priority,” said Aimee Flanders, Aquatic Services Manager. “CLM’s ongoing support has ensured lifeguard coverage at all times, giving our Makino team the confidence and capacity to focus on developing other areas of the business. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our staff, we’ve seen our swim school, programmes, and activities go from strength to strength.”

CLM has been supporting the community since December 2023 with certified and experienced lifeguards trained in CPR, first aid, and water rescue. Prior to their appointment, the Centre faced challenges maintaining a consistent in-house lifeguard team. By drawing from a wider regional workforce, CLM has delivered staffing stability that complements and strengthens the overall service delivery at the Centre.

The Makino Aquatic Centre remains open seven days a week, offering a wide range of activities for all ages—from birthday parties and inflatables to water walking and canoe polo. With this contract extension, the community can continue to enjoy a safe, engaging, and well-supported aquatic environment.
