Take the plunge for Blue September

Take the plunge this September! Whether it’s laps in the pool or push-ups poolside, every effort helps raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

The Makino Aquatic Centre has launched a local version of the national challenge, encouraging the community to take on either 739 push-ups or a 739m swim during September. Everyone who signs up at Makino reception will also go into the draw for the Blue September raffle, thanks to the generosity of Todd and Nicole Carter at New World Feilding. Prizes include a scotch fillet and block of butter, and a leg of lamb.

“We’ve had such an awesome response already that we wanted to take things up a notch,” said Renee Dunbar, Programmes Leader. “It’s fantastic to see people getting involved, moving for a cause, and helping to start conversations about men’s health.”

As part of the wider campaign, staff from Manawatū District Council are also lending their support through the TEAM MDC fundraising page, with a group tackling the 739 push-up challenge.

In New Zealand, one in eight men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. More than 4,200 men will be diagnosed this year, and over 739 will die. By getting active, Makino and the community are helping to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and support those affected.

Makino invites the public to get involved by signing up for the challenge at reception or by supporting fundraising efforts.
