Back to School, Healthy and Active
As the school year begins, families are settling back into routines early mornings, busy schedules and full days. It’s a great time to support wellbeing, build confidence, and energy levels through something as simple as swimming.
Swimming supports mental and emotional wellbeing by helping reduce stress, lift mood and improve sleep. For teens, in particular, time in the water offers a healthy way to unwind, take a break from screens, and manage the pressures that often come with school and social life. Swimming also builds confidence and resilience skills that support learning both in and out of the classroom.
With the unpredictable summer weather, Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC) offers flexibility with both indoor and outdoor heated pools, so swimming can continue whatever the conditions.
Catherine Todd, Aquatics Activity Leader at Makino Aquatic Centre, says swimming can make a real difference during the school year. “The pool is a great space for kids and teens to switch off and just be active,” says Todd. “Whether they are here for lessons, fitness or fun with friends, swimming supports their wellbeing in a really positive way.”
The MAC provides swimming lessons for school aged children, aqua fitness classes for adults, and casual swim sessions for all ages. To make weekends even more fun, inflatables are available most Saturdays and Sundays from 1–3pm, and the dive pool is open from 12–5pm, giving kids and teens something next-level to look forward to while staying active.
As families head back to school, Makino Aquatic Centre welcomes everyone to make swimming part of their routine to help support healthy bodies, calmer minds and a positive start to the year.
